After-work swim in rain — Knee pain

The water felt cold in the beginning, but I swam rather vigorously and soon warmed up. It was a good swim today. Not all the time, but many times I felt my body slipping into an invisible hydrodynamic tunnel effortlessly. I felt fast without struggling. This is the kind of feeling I once had before, but didn’t experience for a very long time.

One problem was my right knee. All in sudden this evening just before I was leaving work, my right knee felt sharp pain. It was not muscle around it, but on top of the kneecap, or maybe slightly around it. I hadn’t had knee pain for more than a year ever since I changed my running form drastically. Even in water, even when I was using a leg float and not using my legs, the sharp pain was felt on and off. I wonder if it could be from yesterday’s Pilates when we were told to squeeze knees while doing bridge. I used to not able to do it, but yesterday I was able to. I hope it’s not serious.

Mid-morning swim after 2-hour waiting

After almost 2 hours of waiting, the pool finally became available at 10. By that time, my body was already tired and hungry, but I sucked up a gel and got ready, since I hadn’t swum for a while and really wanted to. I kept a very slow and steady pace; initially with long glides but then I really got tired and my strokes got choppy. A very fast lady came into my lane when I was about to finish. I looked at her and wondered if I could be like her if I was swimming consistently for the past 30 years. My swimming has been very inconsistent, sometimes I have months or years of break. I still like swimming more than any other sports, but I find running is far more consistent, since there is no time-space constraints like pools. Anyway, I’m glad I was finally able to swim.

Cloudy/Rainy Sunday swim

Tennis was canceled due to rain, so swimming was my substitute in such a wet day. The air was mid 50’s and humid, the water felt colder than it did on colder days. I was feeling a little tired today, so I just swam at a relaxed pace with long glides and no struggles.

Chilly/Misty Sunday swim

I was supposed to play tennis today, but the parking was completely full, so I gave up after drove around for 20-25min and still couldn’t park. So I once came home to grab my swimming gear and went to the gym. Low to mid 40’s, cold and drizzling, I wore my thermal guard. I was still a little tired from yesterday’s long hill run, so probably swimming was better for my legs than tennis today anyway. I kept a slow & steady pace.
